Miss Liberty at Cotton Show Week, 1914
From the series: Berryman Political Cartoon Collection, 1896 - 1949
Cartoonist Clifford Berryman helps celebrate Cotton Show Week patriotic fashion with this cartoon which appeared in the Washington Evening Star on October 6, 1914 . His caricature, Miss Liberty, stacks bolts of cotton; in the background other cotton items are hanging. With the war raging in Europe, the need for cotton grew rapidly, a boon to American cotton growers and manufacturers.
(Looks like Miss Liberty is just a week late for DC Fashion Week.)
